Funded by Arts Council England and devised by artist Alan Dunn in collaboration with other local artists and dog walkers, FOUR WORDS: WIRRAL abstracts and distills local tales down to only FOUR WORDS. The project explores the impressions our local environment makes on our subconcious vernacular and the unusual, often unspoken, connections that are born from regional identities.
Using web-based AR technology delivered in-browser on mobile devices, the submitted artwork has been rendered and made to digitally ‘float’ in the user's location and then can be shared via #fourwordswirral. The project explores themes ranging from hygiene, dangerous insurance jobs and forced labour alongside more unexpected links to ‘A Clockwork Orange’, Batman, PLUTO and the Beach Boys.
As part of the Liverpool Independents biennial, FOUR WORDS: WIRRAL bridges the gap between art and the community, allowing the public to experience work from some of the region's best creatives in their own backyard.
"We found a language and space between an ‘artistic vision’ and technical possibilities, I am confident that this project will become a landmark one in the field of creative technology community art projects." - Alan Dunn, Founder of 4 WORDS: WIRRAL
