LEAP

Degree show identity for a modern university

Leeds Beckett University is a modern university, rich in ambition. Every year the graduating students from Leeds Beckett University’s School of Art, Architecture and Design put on a degree show, welcoming visitors from the design industry. Field provides crucial guidance and expertise in printed publications and vinyl installation, alongside helping to develop a unifying visual style for the show across the various departments.

For the 2016 show, we drew inspiration from Yves Klien’s famous Leap image, where he encouraged his students to take a ‘Leap of Faith”, inviting them to take risks and enter the world with ambition and a brave outlook. The visual aesthetic was influenced By Robert Longo's ‘Men in Cities’ imagery, drawing comparisons with the final year students entering the world of work. The identity was seen throughout the city of Leeds, with graphics displayed on university buildings and throughout the city centre.

As part of the exhibition, Field created a suite of printed materials, bound together with a large coloured band. Visitors could either pick up a full pack to see the full range of student work across all faculties, or hand-pick which exhibition brochure they would like to take.
