The Sheffield Institute of Arts is a 175 year old institution that is woven into the creative fabric of Sheffield and home to the largest group of creative practitioners outside of London. Commissioned by Sheffield Hallam University, Field created I AM – the second iteration of The Sheffield Institute of Arts book. The publication is designed to connect prospective students with the institute and the city, and capture what it's like to study Arts, Media and Design in Sheffield.
The book is abundant with print production techniques and special finishes including die cuts, fluorescent inks, special binding and tip ins, creating a tactile and sensory experience that echoes back to the link with the Arts.
To further enhance the physical quality of the project we used our knowledge and expertise in digital design, bringing an interactive experience to a piece of print through Augmented Reality. Students can download an App to discover further video, animation and 3D content as they interact with the book. Alongside this, we produced a collection of postcards that slot into the cover of the book, becoming three new AR targets to find and collect.
