The Hepworth Gallery

Visual identity and exhibition graphics for a celebration of historical architecture

The exhibition Upper Mills: Re-imagined, sponsored by the Leeds Sustainability Institute and displayed at the Hepworth gallery, reflects on the regenerative possibilities of a historically significant former 18th century watermill. Field supported the exhibition by developing a visual identity, producing exhibition graphics and co-ordinating promotional material.

Working closely with the educational and curatorial teams at The Hepworth, we undertook a conceptual and holistic approach to the exhibition materials, considering the environmental, social, economic and historical context of the building. Visual nods to architectural motifs are reflected throughout the project, including the use of scaffolding to contain models, displays and interpretation panels and a custom red brick typeface inspired by the building’s heritage.

Due to its initial success, the exhibition at The Hepworth Gallery was commissioned for a further two weeks at Leeds Beckett University as part of Leeds Creative Arts Festival 2014.
