David Almond Exhibition

A collaborative approach to exhibition design

The David Almond exhibition is an interactive show commissioned by Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children’s Books whose mission is to champion children’s books as an essential part of our childhood, our national heritage and our culture. Field were brought onboard the project for our expertise in creating interactive and animated spaces, exploring themes of darkness, hope and beauty through digital formats.

Supported by Peter Dixon, we developed projections designed to interact with real world activity to invoke a visual experience. Our 3D holographic projections were coupled with bespoke exhibition facades from Jardine Couture, creating the illusion of objects within the displays. Animated visualisations of the legendary Skellig filled the far space, which were projected alongside soundscapes generated from workshops with local school children.

A holographic raft was also created to give a sense of weightlessness, presented as an infinitely looping projected video with a separate viewport for younger guests. The largest element of the exhibition was the statement entryway with a large projected animation, merging typographic elements with the illusion of a flock of birds swooping through the space.
